Sleep is for the weak…

So apparently I’m pretty weak right now, because all I want is sleep, sleep, and more sleep.  Which I’m told is to be expected.  The thing is, I am an insomniac normally – I usually get less than 6 hours of quality sleep a night.  So if I sleep during the day, I wake up at 3 or 4 am and am awake for hours (I should just get up and do something, but I rarely do, instead choosing to lie there and wonder why I can’t sleep).

I’ve been getting between 5-6 hours a night, as usual, according to my FitBit, but have been needing 2-3 hour naps during the day, and am so tired that I can’t actually do much.  My job is not at all physical, but it is very mentally demanding, and it’s taking everything I’ve got.

The good news is, the rest of recovery is going great.  I have one spot (the part on the skull where the magnet is, just above the ear) that is still super sore because it was a giant bruise, and my right hand is still super sore from the burst vein when the nurse tried to get the IV in (this is common for me, I’m used to it).  Other than that, no pain.  I’ve been off the pain pills during the day for about a week, and have gone without them at night for 3 nights now.  I think I’m good, other than the sleep thing.  Even the tip of the top of the ear is starting to have feeling again, so the weird numbness is definitely going away.  I’m told I’ve got probably another week of this downright exhaustion and then will be back to “normal”.

Follow-up with my surgeon is on the 17th, I may have Ed call today and see if I really have to wait until then to be cleared to drive, or if we can go with two weeks (which is tomorrow).  I have had zero vertigo or dizziness, which is mostly what they are concerned about there.
